Dhanushkodi was a town/village at the southern tip of Rameswaram island, on the eastern coast of the Tamil Nadu state of India.Till 1964 this location was very developed especially for trading with Srilanka. From This location 29 km only to Srilanka. Dhanushkodi is connected with Rameswaram (Nearest City-18 Km Away) by railway through sea. In 1964 December cyclone effected here entire area was demolished. Railway Station,Post office,Hospital shops,houses everything has abandoned.
After government announced that this island is not feasible for human stay. So now having fisherman and tourists. Night stay is prohibited here. No electricity no good buildings. Nothing is here.
It is the present (2014) nature of of Dhanushkodi`s center point. Some huts of fishermans and merchants.and one old watch tower.It not allowed for tourists.
Security office. We cannot find hotels or good eatables. and here have small shops but price is very high.
From Ramaswaram i came by public bus hardly 20 km . Both side of the road is very beautiful seen. Beach also very neet and attractive. The sea wall are very attractive by its nature. Upto center point of dhanushkody any vehicle can use but for visiting the abandoned area (demolished area) we should chose special vehicles jeeps or minibus (above Pict).
I saw only this board pointing the places in Dhanushkodi . The adventure travelling through sand is very interesting. Vehicles dont have seat belts we need to hold the seats otherwise we cannot able to keep stable position.
in curves drivers will give special kind of horn for giving signal to other drivers
The travelling through sea shore given a outstanding feel.But the remembrance of 1800 people death by 1964 cyclone made little fear also.
