The Sultan Battery watch tower , Manglore

The Sultan Battery watch tower was built in 1784 by Tipu Sultan, to prevent English warships from entering through the Gurupura river.

Thias situated 6 km away from Manglore city. For reaching here getdown at Lady Hill bus station and take a Auto Riksha. 1.5 km only from Lady hill to Sulthan Battery.


The watch tower was constructed from stones of churches destroyed by Tipu Sultan.This is faced towards Gurupura river.


The entire structure does not exist any more, though a portion of the fort is still preserved for the tourists, so that they can get a glimpse of this historic monument. The existing portion of the Sultan Battery is called Tippu's Well.

Steps to watch Tower. This side holes are made without straight direction very strategicaly for preventing firing from outside but this nit restricting view from inside.

HereBoat repairing workshops are available. We can watch this vey near. The long view of river and movments many number number of boats at this river is giving good relaxation.


Goverment Boating facility is arranged for connecting opposite side of river. Publics and visitors can use boating in cheap rate. One shope is available for getting cooldrinks and snacks,but the hard food have to be arranged good qulaity. Sitting facility have to improve.Bathing and swimming cannot possible here.

There is rumored to be an as yet undiscovered cave near this location that is the entrance to a tunnel that reaches Tippu's fort in Srirangapatnam.
