Ripon Building is the seat of the Chennai Corporation (Madras Corporation) in Chennai (Madras) . Its central tower is 43 meters tall and has a clock 2.5 meters in diameter. The Government General Hospital, one of the premier Institutions in the country was started on 16th November 1664 as a small Hospital to treat the sick soldiers of the East India Company.In 1842 the Hospital opened its doors to Indians.
n January 2011, the hospital was renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital as Rajiv Gandhi's body was brought to the hospital following his assassination in May 1991.As of 2006, the hospital treats about 8,000 to 10,000 outpatients every day. The hospital also performs three open-heart surgeries free of cost daily.The hospital is funded and managed by the state Government of Tamil Nadu; hence it is state-owned.This is Just opposite right side of Central railway station.
